Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Cardiovascular Pharmacology

Queen Mary University of London - William Harvey Research Institute

Applications are invited for two post-doctoral positions (QMUL9809 and QMUL9810) in a productive and interactive laboratory, with diverse expertise and access to a wide range of specialised equipment, within the William Harvey Heart Centre, part of the internationally renowned William Harvey Research Institute at Barts & The London School of Medicine & Dentistry.

The posts, funded by an award from the British Heart Foundation, will involve identification of novel roles for C-type natriuretic peptide (CNP) in cardiac & vascular function. This project will comprise a multi-disciplinary strategy including molecular, biochemical and in vitro & in vivo pharmacological techniques, including experimental models of disease. The successful candidate will join a team of young scientists investigating wider physiological roles and pathological dysfunction of natriuretic peptide signalling in the cardiovascular system.

The applicants should have a broad background in in vitro and in vivo vascular biology and/or inflammation, but specifically expertise in in vivo models of ischaemia-reperfusion, fibrosis and/or inflammation. An interest in natriuretic peptide/cyclic nucleotide signalling pathways would be beneficial.

The posts are both for 24 months in the first instance, starting from 1st January 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Starting salaries will be in the range £32,405-£34,183 per annum for QMUL9810 and £36,064-£38,062 per annum for QMUL9809 inclusive of London Allowance, dependent on experience. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.

Informal enquiries should be addressed to Prof. Adrian Hobbs at or 0207 882 5778.
