The Department for Mechanical Engineering Sciences at the University of Surrey is looking to recruit a Professor in the broad area of Engineering for Health. The Department benefits from extensive national and international collaboration, excellent facilities, and strong links with industry. The Department is ranked in the top 10 in UK league tables and was ranked in the world top 100 Mechanical Engineering Departments in the Shanghai Global Rankings for 2016.

Biomedical Engineering has been a part of the University’s activities for over fifty years and is a core part of the University’s new Engineering for Health agenda ( In terms of teaching, this comprises a multidisciplinary suite of programmes, which will make use of a new, purpose-built £10+ million building. Associated with this teaching activity is a developing research profile, and the appointee will be expected to be an exceptional researcher who wishes to take a significant role in helping to shape and lead activities. We are open to all candidates with research interests in this field but would be particularly keen to recruit an individual with an interest in sensors, medical devices and/or connected health to complement existing activity within the Centre for Biomedical Engineering and more widely in the Department and University.

Chartered Engineer status would be an advantage.
