We seek to appoint a Post-Doctoral Research Associate (PDRA) to work with the Research Excellence, Policy and Impact Group at the Manchester Institute of Innovation Research (MIoIR), The University of Manchester. The PDRA will be employed by the Manchester Institute of Innovation Research, Alliance Manchester Business School, under the supervision of Prof Jakob Edler and Prof Maria Nedeva
You will support and undertake research in two interrelated areas: (1) Science dynamics and policy including studying the mechanisms through which science policy affects the dynamics of the science system, the mechanisms through which research excellence is negotiated and excellence scripts developed in science spaces and fields; and the effects that negotiated excellence criteria have on science policy; (2) Approaches and methodologies for the study of the impacts of research on society, policy and the economy, where understanding the contexts for knowledge creation will be key. Social sciences and humanities will be a focus.
You will support a rising scholar who seeks to develop leading-edge research and who is keen to engage in the work of an intellectually exciting research group and contribute to the research agenda. You will have a demonstrated commitment to research and publication and also to engagement. The post is open to applicants from diverse educational backgrounds, including public policy and politics, science studies, social science and management. You will be expected to have a good grasp of the key notions in the fields of science studies, sociology of science, science and innovation policy and/or STS. We are also looking for excellent empirical research competence using advanced qualitative methods or quantitative methods (such as bibliometrics, network analysis and data analytics).
