Bangor University (Wrexham Campus)

Salary: £58,231 p.a. (on Clinical Lecturer scale) plus a bursary of £7,500 p.a.
This is an exciting new scheme designed to provide an excellent career opportunity for newly qualified or established General Practitioners who want to gain experience in teaching or research. We will encourage successful applicants to gain a higher qualification in the field of their interest. The posts will commence in September but starting dates are flexible to commence as soon as possible.
Successful applicants will have a two year fixed-term contract (flexibility possible). The initial cohort of Academic Clinical Fellows (ACFs) will work two days (flexibility possible) per week in Primary Care, freeing up General Practitioners in stable practices in North East Wales to embark on projects to further improve patient care. The remaining three days per week will be spent learning to research and teach; please note no previous experience in either is necessary. These posts are designed to provide financial stability, with a high level of clinical and academic support and supervision. The ultimate aim is to provide a safe nurturing environment to work with the individual doctors to identify and encourage the best routes for career progression.
Salary will be on the Clinical Lecturer Scale of £58,231 p.a. plus a bursary of £7.5K per annum if working in specified areas of the Health Boards PLUS indemnity fees. In addition financial support will be given for fellows wishing to pursue higher academic qualifications.
The posts will be managed as a joint clinical academic appointment, with successful applicants having Bangor University as their substantive employer, and additionally an honorary contract with BCUHB for their clinical management. The successful candidate can commence as soon as possible, however we are willing to wait for the right applicants.
Typically an Academic Fellow, at the end of their scheme, might go on to practice in the Health Board, whilst maintaining close links with Bangor University teaching or research in primary care. This is an unrivalled opportunity to prepare GPs for wider professional opportunities, and a portfolio career in general practice.
