Head of Facilities Management

University of Kent - Estates Department

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced facilities management professional to join the University of Kent's Estate Department as our Head of Facilities Management. Reporting to and deputising for the Assistant Director of Estates (Facilities Management), you will manage the full range of soft FM services as well as Grounds Maintenance at the Canterbury and Medway Campuses.

Working with the Assistant Director of Estates (Facilities Management), you will ensure operational effectiveness and assist in setting the strategic direction of the University's FM services within current and future developments. As Head of Facilities Management, you will take part in improvement, quality assurance and ensure the adoption of a variety of technological processes as required in the contemporary age of facilities management.

The successful candidate will therefore have a strong understanding of the different facets of FM services and have extensive experience and understanding of issues relating to FM problem solving.

Excellent interpersonal, communication and management skills are essential as you will need to work successfully with and present to a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders whilst leading and inspiring the teams you are responsible for.

Estates Department

The Estates Department, with some 260 staff and an annual revenue budget of £22 million, is one of the largest Professional Services departments in the University. In addition to capital projects and space management, the Estates Department delivers a diverse range of operational Campus Services across the University which include: buildings maintenance and installation work; statutory compliance; grounds maintenance; utilities, environmental and sustainability management; waste management; cleaning; campus security; travel and transport management; and postal services.
