Postdoctoral Researcher in Energy Technology Assessment and Analysis

New Energy research group in the Department of Applied Physics, Aalto University (Finland), invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Researcher position to Horizon 2020 project “Innovation pathways, strategies and policies for the Low-Carbon Transition in Europe (INNOPATH)”. The work will be done at Department of Applied Physics of Aalto University School of Science in close collaboration with several European partners. The work will be done under the guidance of Prof. Peter D Lund.

The aim of the task is to identify relevant energy technologies present in the past scenarios of energy transitions, their state- of the art, and the first-order estimates of cost and performance used in future-looking modelling and narrative scenarios. An important task is to develop an online Technology Matrix (TM) Tool, which synthesizes costs, performance, uncertainty, and environmental implications of technologies. The post-doc will actively participate in the development of the TM and coordinate the data flow to the database. She/he will be responsible for the technical contents definition of the TM and functions as a liaison to the software providers for the TM. Also, the researcher will analyse individual technologies. Moreover, minor energy systems modelling may be necessary for the integration and flexibility analyses in the project.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced international project

Starting date can be negotiated, with preference to start in Janurary 2017. Starting salary is approximately 3500€/month and will increase over time. The contract is initially made for one year, followed by an extension subject to adequate performance. The contract includes Aalto University occupational healthcare.
