There are up to 3 posts available as part of the FLEXIS operation funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government. The appointment may be on the grade 7 or 8 depending on experience. FLEXIS is designed to investigate how flexible energy systems can meet modern-day energy challenges.
The primary purpose of the posts will be to pro-actively contribute to and conduct experimental research including gather, prepare and analyse data, generate original ideas and present results. Support FLEXIS in the delivery of operation deliverables as set out in the agreed Business Plan with WEFO. The projects cover three broad areas and duties will include providing expertise and guidance in addressing the challenges of:
a.) Carbon dioxide capture and utilisation (CCU) from a ‘materials and processes’ viewpoint.
b.) Development of new materials to allow for pure propane stimulation (in place of water) and also the potential that CO2 sequestration can be combined with gas production.
c.) Development of alternative water sources for gas production through analysis of needs along with determination of the methods for waste water re-use.
Experience with one or more of the following disciplines is desirable: inorganic or organic chemistry, materials science, ceramics, electrochemistry, polymer science, catalysis, computational chemistry, and reverse fuel cells and nanotechnology.
