We are seeking a capable and enthusiastic person to join the Department in this role which provides the underpinning administration for our postgraduate programmes.
The main responsibilities include working closely with the Director of Graduate Education, Graduate Admissions Officer, Graduate Training Officer and MPhil Director and graduate supervisors (approx 30) to support their roles. The role also involves liaison with postgraduate students (approx 200 registered at any one time for research degrees and approx 25 for an MPhil course) as well as potential postgraduates and external contacts within and external to the University regarding all matters related to graduate activities from admission to graduation. The post holder is a key source of advice relating to the policies and procedures with respect to postgraduate issues in the Department. The post holder is supported by a part time Assistant Graduate Secretary.
You will be able to work both independently and in liaison with others. You will be well-organised and approachable and should possess an excellent standard of written English with an ability to communicate effectively and unambiguously with a wide range of people. Education to at least A level standard is a requirement as are good IT skills including word-processing, email and use of the Internet. You will have experience of preparing agendas and taking minutes. You should have relevant work experience in an office environment; experience in an academic or educational setting and management experience is highly desirable.
The post is part time at 30 hours per week which may be arranged flexibly as appropriate to the needs of the post and post holder.
