Principal Lecturer In Social Work, 1.0 FTE

University of Cumbria - Department of Health, Psychology and Social Studies

We are seeking to appoint a 1.0 FTE Principal Lecturer for the Department of Health, Psychology and Social Studies at the University of Cumbria. The post is offered for consideration by HCPC Registered Social Workers with a proven track record of experience in higher education and research.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic Leadership and Development Team within a department that has a diverse range of professional and practitioner focussed programmes, modules and provision, at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. The department portfolio currently includes programmes in Social Work, Mental Health Practice (including AMHP and BIA), Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Applied Psychology, Working with Children and Families, Youth and Community Work and Working with Older Adults, as well as a range of products for the contemporary market.

The post holder will have a key academic leadership and management role as the Professional Lead for Social Work; including overall responsibility for programme design, development and delivery, staffing and quality assurance, as well as responsibility for the meeting of the HCPC and programme professional body requirements. There will be active involvement in the implementation and quality assurance of teaching and learning strategies to ensure the provision of high quality learning and the best possible student experience; this will include placement experience. As some of the programmes and modules within the department are offered via distance or blended learning approaches, the post holder will actively support the use of e-learning technologies and other strategies to effectively engage students who may be learning at a distance.

The department is developing key areas of research, and has a growing reputation for engagement in enterprise activity. A key area of responsibility will be to lead and support these developments, to identify opportunities for expansion, and to foster effective collaboration in the pursuit of research and enterprise activity, with both internal and external partners.

The post holder will actively engage in and encourage others to engage with professional and pedagogical research and scholarship as required to support teaching activities and to extend, transform and apply knowledge acquired from scholarship to teaching and research.

The Department of Health, Psychology and Social Studies has strong links with a number of professional bodies and employers and this is reflected in the high level of employment our students enjoy. The team is made up of the head of Department and four Principal Lecturers with around 60 other staff working across the 4 teams.

The University is committed to provide supportive and collaborative working environments for all staff. There is a comprehensive programme of staff development for academic staff and all colleagues are encouraged to enhance and develop their careers.
