The Department of Facilities and Estates Services is responsible for the physical estate of Birkbeck College and for meeting the needs of the education and research establishment. We are currently looking for two responsible people with suitable mechanical, plumbing and HVAC experience to join our mechanical section.
The successful candidates will be responsible for carrying out maintenance and repairs of general mechanical systems and services within the college premises. Applicants should have a GSCE or equivalent with significant experience, together with a recognized apprenticeship or training qualification (NVQ or City & Guilds equivalent to a minimum of level 3). Good communication skills and team working is essential.
The successful candidates will be expected to participate in callout cover which is an essential part of the role, an allowance of £1,577 is paid in addition to the salary stated below. There are two shifts available, either 8am-4pm or 2pm-10pm.

Salary: Grade 5 of the College's London Pay Scale which is £28,154 rising to £33,764 per annum.
There are two posts available that are full time, 35 hours per week (1.0 FTE) and open-ended. The salary quoted above is on the College's London Pay Scale and includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the Greater London area. The initial salary will be dependent on the skills and experience of the successful applicant. The appointment is subject to a probationary period of 6 months.
