The Agriculture and Food Development Authority - Teagasc - Grassland and Biosystems Modelling

Research Area: Grassland and Biosystems Modelling

Eligibility: PhD in a relevant discipline with a min. of 3 years and no more than 5 years’ relevant experience. 

Post Duration: The indicative duration of 14 months, but not exceeding the above project end date, subject to contract.

Location: Teagasc, Animal and Grassland Research & Innovation Centre, Moorepark, Fermoy, Cork

Training Rate                                       

Appointment will be at the minimum point of the Post Doctoral

Level 2 (PD2) scale (€38,155).

The current PD2 scale is as follows:

PD2: €38,155 (min.); €39,279; €40,437 (max.)

Increments will be awarded annually* subject to performance and completion of the prescribed training plan.   

Basic Function of the post:

To simulate various grass based milk productions systems using a newly developed grazing management model. To evaluate an integrated grass growth and grazing management decisions support tool (DST).  To test the user friendliness of the DST with stakeholders.

This is a collaborative project between Teagasc, Maynooth University, CIT and Met Eireann. The research work will develop a DSS and test it across a number of scenarios.


The Teagasc post-doctoral programme provides training and development opportunities for early career scientists that enhances their experience of learning and equips them with the necessary skills for the next stage of their chosen career in research. 

Person Specification


  • v PhD in grass based ruminant production systems
  • v A minimum of 3 years and not more than 5 years’ relevant research experience


  • Experience in  modelling  biological systems
  • Experience in modelling grass growth
