The University of Exeter Medical School wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on a new, interdisciplinary project examining the role of moral narratives in the medicalisation of distress in low-income communities in the UK.  This ESRC funded post is available full-time from 1st February 2017 to 30th April 2019.

The main role of the Postdoctoral Research Associate will be to transcribe and analyse an audio-visual dataset of GP-patient consultations on mental health using conversation analysis techniques. The researcher will also be required to assist with primary data collection and analysis and will spend some time working in the two study sites.

The successful applicant will have strong skills in conversation analysis, and will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, analyse complex information and communicate it orally, in writing and electronically, prepare academic and lay reports, write up academic papers for publication and assist with data archiving.

Applicants will possess a relevant PhD (or be nearing completion) or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in the social sciences and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in qualitative research methods and techniques to work with primary and secondary data and within community and general practice settings.  Applicants will be expected to work as part of an interdisciplinary team and to undertake some travel to the research sites.
