Cancer Research UK Beatson Institute in Glasgow is one of Europe's leading cancer research centres. It supports cutting edge research into the molecular mechanisms of cancer development. The Proteomics Group develops and utilises various MS-based platforms for the analysis of a wide range of biological samples, from single proteins to complete/in-depth proteomes of cells or tissues. We work together with researchers to provide a new level of understanding in tumour biology.
We are looking for a Senior Scientific Officer in the Proteomics Group who will operate our mass spectrometers (LTQ-Orbitrap Velos, LTQ-Orbitrap Elite, and Q-Exactive HF, Thermo Scientific) and nLCs (Easy nLC II and 1200, Thermo Scientific).
Supporting various cancer proteomics projects, the Senior Scientific Officer will run and maintain our mass spectrometry systems. Additionally, you will liaise with personnel in research groups providing the samples and perform sample analysis. The role includes using and developing mass spectrometry and sample preparation methods, and utilising various software packages (MaxQuant/Perseus, Progenesis and Skyline) for data analysis. Enthusiasm and excellent communication skills are required for active interactions with research scientists and mass spectrometry users.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in a relevant area and strong laboratory skills. Experience working with Q-Exactive mass spectrometer and LC is essential. Knowledge of data analysis with the above software packages is desirable. The ability to work well independently as well as in a team is essential.
