The Ruhr-Universität Bochum - Faculty of History - invites applications for a

Junior Professorship (W1) for the period of the European Expansion from 1700 to 1850

to start on 01 April 2017.

The successful candidate will be able to cover the History of the European Expansion with a focus on the period from the beginning of the 18th to the middle of the 19th century in both research and teaching in a global or comparative perspective. While focusing on the period during which the European colonial powers expanded into non-European areas, central areas of interest will include migration and global wars, but also of changing knowledge and cultural transfer during the Enlightenment and the revolutions at the dawn of the Industrial Age.

Requirements for the position include an excellent PhD/Dissertation and evidence of special aptitude for academic teaching as well as the willingness to participate in the self-governing bodies of the RUB. In addition, applicants are required to be enthusiastic about teaching, to contribute to the relevant research projects and to work within an interdisciplinary and international context. A further requirement is the willingness and ability to acquire third party funding and to supervise PhD candidates.
