Linux Systems Administrator

University of Edinburgh - College of Science and Engineering

EPCC, the UK's leading supercomputing centre, manages a unique collection of leading-edge High Performance Computing (HPC) systems and data resources at the University's Advanced Computing Facility (ACF), a secure state-of-the-art facility located at the Bush Estate on the outskirts of Edinburgh. The most well-known of the centre's HPC systems is ARCHER - the UK's £43M national supercomputing service.

EPCC is seeking to appoint a Linux Systems Administrator to work as part of a small team providing systems, operations and networking support on a variety of services, including the UK National HPC and data services operated by the University under managed contract with the Research Councils.

The position will be based at the ACF on the Bush Estate. Offering facilities unmatched by any other UK university, the ACF is one of the most ecologically responsible date centres in Europe today.

The successful candidate will be a graduate with a working knowledge and experience of Linux or Unix-based systems, with knowledge of networking, security and storage systems being advantageous. An ability to use scripting such as Perl/shell/Python to maintain and develop administrative tools is also required. Whilst the post requires these technical skills, it is equally important that the candidate is able to work as part of team interacting with staff at the ACF, the on-site support team from suppliers, remote sites and EPCC's helpdesk operators.

The post holder will be required to participate in the out of hours emergency call out rota for technical support of the ACF.

This is a great opportunity to work in an exciting, fast-moving and challenging HPC environment.

The position is full time and fixed-term for 3-years.

Closing Date: Wednesday 2nd November 2016 at 5pm (GMT)
