Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Biomedical Sciences (Education & Scholarship)

These full-time posts are available from 1st January 2017 on a permanent basis.

The College wishes to recruit 2 x Lecturers or Senior Lecturers in Biomedical Sciences (Education and Scholarship) to contribute to science teaching and scholarship across all Medical School programmes (both undergraduate and postgraduate) but may be required to predominantly support the delivery of our undergraduate BSc (Hons) Medical Sciences and BMBS medical programmes initially. These posts are available from 1st January 2017 on a full-time basis.

The successful applicant will possess the depth and breadth of specialist knowledge in order to teach and support learning in this academic area (demonstrated by a PhD in general biomedical science or specifically Pharmacology, Immunology, Biochemistry, Cell & Molecular Biology, Physiology or any of their related sub-disciplines. Other areas such as neuroscience and genetics/genomics will also be considered. As an applicant, you will have a consistent track record of excellent teaching across a variety of modules and levels within your discipline as might be expected of an experienced educator. You will use a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students.  The successful applicant will develop and personally deliver teaching sessions for students whilst also contributing to the development of biomedical science content within our curriculums.

The post will include the design, development and delivery of a range of modules or programmes at various levels; applying innovative and appropriate teaching techniques; participating in and developing external networks; identifying sources of funding and securing funds for own scholarly activities and providing academic leadership to those working within programme areas.  Staff at the Lecturer/Senior Lecturer level are expected to work towards Fellow/Senior Fellow/Principal Fellow of the HEA as appropriate and to attend formal CPD relating to this.  Additionally at Senior Lecturer level you will work with the Vice Dean of Education to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of teaching programmes in accord with the College’s education strategy and implementing the External Affairs strategy.

The starting salary will be from:

Lecturer - £33,943pa up to £41,709pa on Grade F, depending on qualifications and experience.

Senior Lecturer - £41,709pa up to £48,327pa on Grade G, depending on qualifications and experience.
