Research Associate, Investment Law and Policy Programme

National University of Singapore - Centre for International Law

Applications are invited for a Research Associate position in the Centre for International Law (CIL), National University of Singapore to commence as soon as possible for a period of two (2) years.

The Centre for International Law (CIL) is a university-level research institute at the National University of Singapore (NUS). The mission of CIL is to play a significant role in the promotion and development of international law throughout the Asia-Pacific region. CIL works closely with the NUS Faculty of Law and is located within the Faculty’s premises at the historic NUS Bukit Timah Campus.

CIL is expanding its dedicated Programme on Investment Law and Policy (ILP). The goal of the ILP Programme is to establish CIL as a hub for world class, practically-oriented research and debate.

Research in the ILP Programme is founded on three principles: first, an interdisciplinary approach and consideration of the law in practice; second, a comparative examination of the development of international investment law within states and across regions; and third, a commitment to the production of theoretically informed and practical research designed to provide policy makers, arbitrators and other decision makers, and practitioners with an advanced understanding of the state of the law, the dynamics of its development, and the impacts of its application.

The Research Associate will participate in identifying, developing and implementing new research and publication/delivery streams.

The successful candidate will have a well-rounded knowledge of public international law and international investment law with some experience or familiarity with empirical research. Research Associate candidates should have an LL.M with relevant work experience in an international organisation, government department or private practice. Fluency in spoken and written English is essential as is a proven ability to write to a publication-level of quality. In light of the nature of the research, experience with field work and knowledge of other languages (especially Asian languages) would be an advantage, but is not a prerequisite.

Closing date: 30th November 2016

Interested applicants are invited to mail or email a covering letter, a short statement of research interests, a detailed curriculum vitae, 2 samples of written work if available, and the names/contact information of two referees.
