In an increasingly competitive global landscape, it is imperative that the University of Cambridge is able to maintain its position as one of the top five international Universities. Consequently, the new position of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) has been created to enable the University to maximise the benefit of its entire portfolio of activities and assets, whilst contributing to its core mission of contributing to society through the pursuit of education, learning, and research at the highest international levels of excellence.
Reporting to the Vice-Chancellor, the CFO will be responsible for overseeing the financial and trading activities of the University group. The postholder will focus on the optimisation of the University's portfolio of assets, working with senior colleagues as appropriate. The University's assets include Cambridge University Press (CUP), Cambridge Assessment, the Cambridge University Endowment Fund, the c. £1bn of non-operational real estate assets, and its technology transfer through Cambridge Enterprise. The CFO will also play a leading role in developing new and existing areas of commercial activity and, as a member of the Vice-Chancellor's senior leadership team, the CFO will play a full part in the development of the University's policy and strategy across all areas and not limited to the financial aspects alone.
The CFO's responsibilities will include developing and executing the financial strategy of the University group (including a long-term financial plan) and leading the University's major financial, business and commercial developments and opportunities. The CFO will have substantial experience as a business and/or commercial leader operating at Board level. The CFO will have a full commitment to the collegiate University's mission and values, being able to balance a commercial perspective with the overriding mission of the University.
