Have you completed a Registered Apprenticeship in an Electrical discipline or have significant demonstrable experience to an equivalent level?

Do you have NVQ Level 3 in electrical installation work (or an equivalent level approved qualification)?

Do you have your City & Guilds 17th Edition (or equivalent level) qualification in BS7671 wiring regulations?

If so, you may be what we are looking for as we are recruiting for an Electrician to join our Maintenance section.

The University has a team of directly employed tradesman representing all the main building and engineering disciplines. The purpose of the Maintenance section is to maintain the existing buildings both reactively and proactively to ensure that they are fit for purpose and comply fully with all statutory and regulatory requirements. This is essential to maintain business continuity and the safety and well being of our students, staff and visitors.

This role will be primarily to undertake work in the electrical area but may also involve some other minor building work associated with the maintenance requirements.

Besides the qualifications mentioned above, to be successful you will have experience of working as a team member, alongside other related trades staff and as an electrician in a maintenance environment. Having a thorough working knowledge of the current IEE Regulations for Electrical installations is key as is the ability to work directly from drawings or specifications and requisition the necessary installation materials.

In this role you will communicate on a regular basis with University colleagues, students and staff (at all levels) as well as with external contractors on site and service providers. You will therefore have good communication skills and a strong sense of good customer service.

Estates Department

The Estates Department as a whole provides a number of essential services to the University of Kent and is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the extensive grounds and buildings; the security of the students, staff and visitors; transport and travel; a postal service and the telephone exchange as well as the University Design and Print Centre. It is also responsible for the buildings, new developments and construction projects both at Canterbury and at our Medway campus at Chatham Maritime and on the Chatham Historic Dock Yard.
