The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency enhance and improve the health of millions of people every day through the effective regulation of medicines and medical devices, underpinned by science and research.

The agency is made up of circa 1300 staff working across two main centres and peripatetically across the UK and abroad.

CPRD, jointly funded by the agency and the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR), is the UK’s preeminent research service providing access to anonymised NHS data for research. CPRD services are designed to maximise the way anonymised NHS clinical data can be used to improve and safeguard public health. For more than 20 years data provided by CPRD have been used in a range of drug safety and epidemiological studies that have impacted on health care and resulted in over 1500 peer-reviewed publications. The UK is in a unique global position to use clinical records in novel ways for patient recruitment, clinical trials management and follow up. In addition to supporting high quality observational research, CPRD is developing world leading services based on using real world data to support clinical trials and intervention studies.

Purpose of the role:

CPRD is entering an expansion phase and will soon have the technical capability of receiving anonymised primary care data from 95% of GP practices across the UK. The GP Engagement Manager is a new role responsible for incentivising GPs to join the growing network of GP practices working with CPRD. Responsibilities include engaging with GPs to raise awareness of the public health benefits and care quality improvements arising from CPRD enabled research; promoting opportunities for GP practices to participate in clinical studies supported by CPRD; managing campaigns and activities to encourage GPs to take part in clinical research; and establishing partnerships with a range of influential individuals and networks.

The post is based in the Business Development team and reports to the GP Engagement Lead. In addition to working closely with colleagues across CPRD, the role will involve regular liaison with the Royal College of GPs (RCGP) and NIHR Clinical Research Network (CRN), as well as clinical research networks in the devolved UK nations, NHS England, GPs, GP practice staff and key stakeholders and partners.

We are seeking a dynamic individual who has experience of working in a primary care setting or closely liaising with GPs, to join our expanding organisation. You will be a talented communicator, possess excellent interpersonal skills to develop and maintain productive partnerships, and have an appreciation of the benefits of research using electronic health records.


  • Healthcare or life sciences degree; or communications or marketing-related qualification; or other equivalent relevant qualification
