Senior Database Engineer (SQL server application DBA)
|Salary:||£40,082 to £46,414 Grade 7 p.a.|
|Placed on:||18th October 2016|
|Closes:||31st October 2016|
You will work as part of a professional service delivery team dedicated to the provision of a quality driven and competitive Information Technology service to staff and students within the University’s Corporate, Administrative, Academic Research and Learning and Teaching functions.
As a Senior Application DBA, you will be expected to take ownership of the full lifecycle of database application design and delivery, providing authoritative application DBA consultancy to customers. You must have extensive experience of integrating SQL Server with other Microsoft technologies including Windows Server, Active Directory, Sharepoint, IIS, Windows Deployment Services and Powershell.
The University has a new and rapidly expanding Business Intelligence capability and you will have experience and understanding of the Microsoft BI toolset, allowing you to support the BI team to meet the University’s requirements in this area. You will have experience of all SQL Server instance types - Relational, SSAS, SSRS and SSIS and you will contribute to the strategy for the management and development of both OLTP and DataMart/Data Warehouse implementations.
You will be expected to play the lead role in the management of SQL Server upgrades and provide effective DBA support to application teams during application upgrades. Working with application teams to optimise performance is a key part of the role and you will bring knowledge of SQL server internals, TSQL and best-practice to diagnose and resolve caused by issues such as misconfiguration, and poorly structured queries.
You will have experience of providing engineering support for critical production databases in an enterprise environment and will have a good understanding of business continuity management for SQL Server - operating across multiple data centres and using virtualisation technologies such as VMware.
The scope and volume of demand for the database service is growing, so you would be expected to work effectively with other members of the team, providing cover where necessary with other technologies - including sharepoint and IIS
This is an open ended, full time position of 35 hours per week.
Salary: £40,082 - £46,414 per annum (Grade 7), plus attractive defined-benefits pension and 37 days per annum holiday entitlement.
