Basic Function:
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Architectural Engineering Program at Worcester Polytechnic Institute invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor rank in the broad area of advanced building systems and materials. Of particular interest are candidates with a strong background in modeling at various scales, including building energy modeling and multi-physics modeling of adaptive materials and building systems. The successful candidate for the Advanced Building Materials position will join a group of faculty whose research interests are related to WPI's Materials, Manufacturing and Mobility research area. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in architectural engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, materials science, or a related field. Candidates should have a broad understanding of the architectural design and construction industries, previous industry experience is desirable. 

Applicants must have potential or proven ability to develop an internationally recognized research program, must have excellent communication skills, and must have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and student advising at both undergraduate and graduate levels. An ability to teach architectural engineering courses in building physics, building energy modeling, building envelope design, building electrical systems, HVAC , or building controls is required. The candidate must have a strong interest in innovative project based teaching methods and curriculum development to support the architectural engineering program. The ideal applicant should expect to generate collaborative research funding to lead a successful research program. Candidates are expected to conduct research both independently and in collaboration with other disciplines.
