Applications across the areas of image/video processing, computer vision, multimedia, computer graphics, machine learning and pattern recognitions are invited for three Research Assistant Professorships at the Research Institute for Future Media Computing, College of Computer Science & Software Engineering, Shenzhen University, China.

The research assistant professorships are initially for 5 years, renewable following an academic performance review. Salaries are within the range of 250,000-400,000 CNY/pa (1 sterling pound = 8.00 CNY), depending on qualifications and experiences.

Established in 2013, the research institute has experienced enormous expansions over the past three years, and all academic members of staff have teaching and research experiences in the US, UK, Hong Kong and Singapore. In 2016 alone, the Institute has successfully won four research projects funded by Chinese Natural Science Foundation (CNSF), the most prestigious research funding body in China (equivalent to EPSRC in the UK, and NSF in the US), three collaborative research projects funded by Tencent Technologies Inc., one of the largest IT companies in China, and two research projects funded by Shenzhen Commission for Scientific Research & Technology Innovations. The Institute currently has two distinguished professors, two associate professors and 6 assistant professors. Research activities and directions include: (i) machine learning and its applications for semantics-based video and image content analysis; (ii) computer vision and graphics; (iii) medical image analysis; (iv) source-channel coding and compression of videos/images; (v) multimedia big data analytics; (vi) panoramic multi-view 3D video processing and indoor scene reconstruction; (vii) content-based image/video search; and (viii) learning-based AI and pattern recognitions inside images and videos.

Situated at the immediate north of Hong Kong, Shenzhen is the fastest-growing city in the world. Being China's first and one of the most successful Special Economic Zones (SEZs) with a population of over 15 million, Shenzhen is China's major financial center as well as the headquarters of numerous Chinese world-leading high-tech companies.

Shenzhen University is one of the research-intensive universities in China, organized in 25 colleges covering sciences, engineering, medicine, philosophy, literature, economics, management, law, education, arts, language, and history etc. The student population is over 40000.
