The School of Education and Social Work - one of the University’s nine Schools - is an inter-disciplinary School focusing on transforming lives locally and globally. Through its high quality and internationally recognised professional education programmes, the School prepares graduates for professional roles that are required for the social, cultural and physical well-being of citizens and society. Research focuses on how to best promote social justice and support the most vulnerable, how to educate students across all levels of formal and informal education, and how to develop strong communities. The Education team are a highly committed, vibrant and experienced group of academics, excelling in the areas of sociology, psychology and philosophy of education; science and mathematics education; e-learning, medical education and educational intervention studies in the last REF. The School’s teaching programmes are rated consistently highly by students, with the MA Education coming first in Scotland in the 2016 Complete University Guide and in the top 100 in the 2015 QS World Rankings by Subject.

The School of Education and Social Work is now seeking to appoint a Chair of Education to join a committed and collegial team of academics. The post-holder will be an energising and dynamic Chair of Education who can build on and take forward the academic culture in Education at Dundee, particularly in the areas of research quality and impact in educational research. The University welcomes applications from individuals on an international basis and is particularly interested in those with research expertise in school or pedagogical based research, curriculum or teacher education. The appointee will take a leading role in supporting and developing research across Education at Dundee and will be a collegial member of the team who will promote the research profile of the School nationally and internationally. Reporting to the Dean of the School of Education and Social Work, the incoming post-holder will also be expected to contribute to other School and University-level activities, as deemed appropriate.
