Working within the SASP Learning Centers, as part of the Writing Center tutor team, you will provide expert tuition and support in the development of writing skills for students at all levels of study, including postgraduate levels, and across academic disciplines. Core duties entail providing one-to-one and small group writing tutorials on English-medium academic writing, and developing and leading workshops on academic writing skills, for students of all levels. You will also contribute to other areas of the Writing Center’s programs, such as the development of multi-media writing support materials and student engagement activities (e.g. writing competitions and student publications). You may also be required to fulfil a quarter-time teaching role.
Master’s degree in TESOL / Applied Linguistics. Substantial experience teaching and tutoring writing in ESOL higher education context.
Postgraduate specialization related to English for Academic Purposes, writing pedagogy or higher education learning support.
Familiarity with tutoring techniques supporting independent learning, especially in a Writing Center context; familiarity with academic writing process and product at undergraduate, postgraduate and foundation levels, and across disciplines; commitment to helping students develop as independent learners and confident writers; good interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team; understanding of writing and learning needs of UAE higher education students; understanding of UAE values and cultural appropriateness.
