Full time, fixed-term appointment for 5 years
Applicants are invited to apply for a new Research Fellow vacancy in artificial intelligence for crowdsourcing applications in the Department of Computing at Imperial College London. The successful applicant will work with Professor Nick Jennings (www.imperial.ac.uk/people/n.jennings) on a broad research agenda on smart techniques for crowdsourcing applications. This research will build upon previous work in the award-winning ORCHID project (www.orchid.ac.uk).
The Department of Computing is a leading department of Computer Science among UK Universities, and has consistently been awarded the highest research rating. In the 2014 REF assessment, The Department was ranked third (1st in the Research Intensity table published by The Times Higher), and was rated as "Excellent" in the previous national assessment of teaching quality.
The Research Fellow will help develop novel artificial intelligence techniques for crowdsourcing domains. Key questions include: strategies for the allocation of tasks to workers in the presence of budget constraints, methods for monitoring and verifying effective task performance, and mechanisms for incentivising desirable behaviour. There will be an initial focus on applications in disaster response, smart energy systems and citizen science, but there is flexibility to explore other areas.
We are looking for outstanding applicants with the following experience:
- Significant expertise in artificial intelligence, covering areas such as multi-agent systems, machine learning, decision theory and/or mechanism design.
- Exposure to, and interest in, crowdsourcing applications.
You must also have a PhD (or equivalent experience) in a relevant area and, ideally, practical experience in the development of software systems or apps that have been deployed.
Applicants with strong experience and a proven track record in one or more of the above research areas are encouraged to apply. A high level of analytical and computing skills is required. Preference will be given to applicants with a record of high-quality academic publications. Applicants must be fluent in English.
