Join a new University of Cambridge initiative investigating the mechanisms of flow instabilities and noise generation in practical devices. A new high frequency velocity and scalar measurement has recently been commissioned, and we now starting the first studies using the facility, measuring scalars and velocities simultaneously. Working with industry and academics, we will be identifying the sources of noise and instabilities in practical devices, such as hair dryers, turbochargers and gas turbines.
Eligibility: Funding is restricted to UK home/EU nationals (partial funding for non-UK residents). Applications are invited from recent graduates or final year undergraduates who hold or expect to gain a first/upper second-class degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject (physics, chemistry, engineering or related fields) from a recognized university.
Preferred Skills: A degree in engineering, physics, chemistry or related science. Enthusiasm, independence, and excellent communication skills. Exposure to optics, spectroscopy, electronic instrumentation or related experimental methods a strong plus.
