Hong Kong Baptist University - Department of Government and International Studies

The Department of Government and International Studies (GIS) was established at Hong Kong Baptist University in 1994.  It trains students to the different aspects of political science, with strong emphasis on international relations and comparative politics, and in European Studies, using a multi-disciplinary approach.  It offers a BSocSc (Hons) in Government and International Studies, and another BSocSc (Hons) in European Studies which includes one year of studying abroad, with two language streams (French and German).  GIS also contributes to teaching in the China Studies programme and the Master of Public Administration programme. 

Research by staff of GIS covers Hong Kong and Chinese politics, European politics and European integration, social movements and protest, political transitions and democratisation, international relations, and economic and cultural relations between China and Europe.  Applicants are expected to be committed to and uphold the highest standards of academic excellence. 

Professor / Associate Professor (PR148/16-17) 

The Department seeks an active and experienced researcher who can contribute to teaching in some of the following areas: (i) introduction to political economy, (ii) contemporary world politics and global issues, (iii) political science theory, (iv) gender and politics and (v) statistics and survey methods for political science.  The suitable candidate may be invited later to become Head of Department. 

Applicants should possess a relevant PhD degree, substantial publication record, and solid experience in teaching and academic administration.  

Terms of appointment:

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.  The University offers competitive package which include gratuity/retirement benefits, annual leave, medical and dental scheme, and wherever applicable housing assistance and relocation allowance.  Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of two to three years commencing September 2017.  Re-appointment thereafter is subject to mutual agreement and availability of funding.
