The Department of Computer Science has an exciting new opportunity for a Research Associate in Big Data Management, Reasoning, Extraction, and Query on the VADA (Value-Added Data Systems and Architecture) project. This project, directed by Professor Georg Gottlob, is a collaboration between the Universities of Oxford, Edinburgh, and Manchester, and aims to provide data scientists with a new generation of tools to unlock the potential of data assets. We are looking for researchers interested in big data management, reasoning, extraction, and querying.
As a research associate on this project you will be expected to manage your own research and administrative activities which will include small scale project management, as well as collaborate in the preparation of research papers for publication in conferences and journals. You may also be required to assist in the supervision of postgraduate students working on related projects.
You should have a PhD (or be very close to completion) in a relevant area of science, together with a track record of conducting and completing research projects, evidenced by published peer-reviewed work, a strong systems-oriented research profile or strong foundational research profile, and an excellent systems design and implementation background or excellent background in database theory and logic.
