The Network Services Team manages the wired and wireless networks across the University. It has responsibility for over 60,000 network ports, a wireless infrastructure with more than 12,000 concurrent connections a day from a wide range of devices and two ten Gbps connections to Janet plus. Services are provided for a wide range of uses: high volume research data, new teaching and learning services, and even accommodation networks.
We are looking for a Network Services Engineer to join the team to help deliver these services, in particular focusing on the wireless network, managing the network to deliver high performance wireless services in existing, and new locations, and help develop and deliver new services.
You will have:
- Familiarity with Wi-Fi walled gardens and captive portals.
- Excellent knowledge of network concepts and key network protocols e.g. OSPF, STP, BGP, DHCP.
- An understanding of RF fundamentals of wireless networks.
- A good understanding of network security and best practice.
- An understanding of industry best practice relating to change and release management.
