The School of Informatics at the University of Edinburgh seeks to appoint an outstanding candidate with a specialism in an area of Algorithms and Complexity to an established Chair (Full Professor) in Computer Science.

The successful candidate will provide leadership in research and teaching in algorithms and complexity theory, broadly defined. The School is open to a variety of specialisms within the theory of algorithms, including (but not limited to): algorithms for large data sets, algorithmic foundations of data privacy, algorithmic game theory and the interface of algorithms with economics, algorithmic learning theory, randomised algorithms, approximation algorithms, computational complexity theory, network algorithms, algorithmic aspects of security and cryptography, and quantum algorithms/complexity.

The School of Informatics is one of the top ranked departments in computer science in Europe, with over 100 faculty members, and is housed in the Informatics Forum building, located in the centre of Edinburgh.

The School of Informatics has prioritised growth in algorithms and complexity research, and is seeking to make additional appointments to posts of Lecturer, Senior Lecturer or Reader in algorithms and complexity.

Salary will be on the professorial scale.

The closing date is 31 January 2017. Interviews will be held in early 2017, in Edinburgh. Visits to Edinburgh and to the School of Informatics will be arranged for short-listed candidates, in advance of the interview date.
