A Research Associate position is available within the Synthesis & Catalysis section of the Department of Chemistry to work on the characterisation of ethylene oligomerisation catalysts.
This is an EPSRC-Catalysis Hub sponsored, multi-disciplinary project with a team of collaborators from other universities and an industrial partner. The project supervisor is Dr George Britovsek, and the successful candidate is expected to collaborate with other team members at other universities across the UK and the Catalysis Hub at Harwell on developing methods for in situ characterisation of oligomerisation catalysts under operating conditions.
We are looking for candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Knowledge of homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis
- Handling of reactive gases
- Synthesis and manipulation of air and moisture sensitive compounds
- Carrying out reactions in high pressure reactors
- Characterisation techniques including NMR, EPR and/or EXAFS
The successful applicant will hold a PhD in Chemistry or a closely related discipline or equivalent level of professional qualifications and experience. Experience with air-free chemical synthesis is required. A good working knowledge of in situ characterisation techniques is desirable.
*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £29,800 - £32,970 per annum.
