Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Comparative and International Education in the Faculty of Education

Applications are invited for a tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor in Comparative and International Education in the Faculty of Education, to commence on September 1, 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and with consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.
Applicants should have a doctorate degree in comparative and international studies in education, or in a closely related social science, and preferably a track record in acquiring external grants. The appointee will contribute to a cross-faculty, interdisciplinary initiative (the ‘Urban Silk Road’), which aims to strengthen scholarship linked to China’s ‘One Belt One Road’ (OBOR) strategy. The appointee’s doctoral studies and/or subsequent research should therefore relate to countries/cultures along the Silk Road. Those with the ability to develop programmes and courses concerning the role of education in the OBOR initiative that extend and complement the existing curriculum and contribute to cross-civilizational dialogue and multiculturalism in the Faculty are preferred. As part of the cross-faculty initiative, the appointee would be expected to work with colleagues in Education, Architecture, Arts and Social Sciences to develop an interdisciplinary research programme. His/Her major teaching duties would be within the Faculty of Education, but with the possibility of contributing to teaching in one or more of our three partner faculties. He/She would be encouraged to develop Common Core Courses with colleagues from our partner faculties, be expected to supervise postgraduate research students, and take up administrative duties as required. A globally competitive remuneration package commensurate with the appointee’s qualifications and experience will be offered. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary, as well as leave, and medical benefits. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
