LED Lighting for Leafy crop production systems
Utilising new and emerging agronomic technologies to improve efficiency and reduce waste in salad crop production and develop new markets through the design and demonstration of next generation production systems for leafy salad crops.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual to work on a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) collaborative development project between Harper Adams University and Cambs Farm Growers Ltd (www.gs-growers.com/growers_profiles/j-b-shropshire-sons-ltd/). You will be a University employee, but based at the state of the art Second Willow Nursery near Ely, Cambridge, located close to CFG headquarters and farming base, and close to G’s Fresh, CFG’s marketing partner. The KTP will include both a significant training and development component and the opportunity to undertake some of the work in South East Spain at a sister propagation and farming business. The aim of the project is to develop next generation production systems for leafy salad crops that utilise cutting edge LED lighting technologies to improve quality and reduce waste.
You will have an undergraduate degree at 2.1. or above in Biological Sciences, Agriculture, Engineering or similar, ideally with a Masters in a relevant discipline.
Experience of undertaking detailed plant growth studies is highly desirable. Knowledge of statistics and data analysis is desirable. Some experience of land-based industry is also desirable. You will be self-motivated with a creative and scientific attitude suitable for developing leading edge technology. You will have excellent communication, project management and team working skills, and the ability to work at all levels in an organisation.
The successful candidate will on occasion need to travel and work between the two locations and should hold a full driving licence. Expenses will be covered.
