A new Head of Department is required for the successful, ambitious, student-centred and research-driven Department of Health and Social Sciences (HSS).
To succeed in this role, you will be passionate about staff engagement and all aspects of the student experience backed with a First degree and PhD in a relevant discipline. Also, you’ll have significant experience at senior manager level within an education based organisation. A successful record of achievement as an academic, covering teaching, research and professional experience in a relevant subject area and proven leadership skills, is required including the ability to motivate large and diverse teams in order to achieve a high level of performance.
Based within the faculty of Health and Applied Sciences, and with over 70 staff and 1500 students, DAS offers a varied suite of undergraduate, postgraduate, research and CPD programmes from Criminology, Environmental Health, Philosophy, Politics and International Relations, Public Health, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, and Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN).
We combine UWE Bristol’s commitment to outstanding teaching and research, with a real-world focus on collaboration with community and business partners. This ensures that our academic programmes carry maximum professional value by providing students real-world experience through placements, internships, simulations and work-related learning.
The Department provides excellent facilities for our teaching and research and hosts the Centre for Appearance Research and three developing research groups focusing on Social Sciences, Public Health and Wellbeing, and Psychological Sciences.
