Job Description

The School of Applied Social Studies is looking for a Head of Research to develop and lead research activity in the field of Applied Social Studies. A leader and motivator, you will be responsible for building and leading a team of researchers to grown research income significantly. Applications are welcomed from any social scientific background that fits within the School’s areas of expertise.

In line with the University’s strategic priorities to contribute to fairer, more inclusive and socially engaged societies, the School of Applied Social Studies is building and strengthening research and scholarly activity in areas which underpin curricula, strengthen academic profile and enhance funding possibilities. Accordingly, our research and scholarly activities are designed around five School Themes:

  • Children and Young People
  • Community and Social Development
  • Criminal Justice
  • Health and Social Care
  • Relationships

We are committed to increasing the quantity and quality of research and scholarly activity in the five thematic areas. In addition, we will strive to enhance the dissemination and integration of research across the social sciences and social work academic disciplines and practices. Our staff are expected to contribute towards the School’s scholarly achievements and to disseminate knowledge and understanding to a variety of stakeholders.

Applications will be assessed against the RGU Professorial criteria. Applications that do no meet the Professorial requirements, will still be considered for the post, but at Grade 10 (£57,674-£59,400). Appointments are normally made to the bottom of the salary scale or minimum/lower end of the professorial pay zone, but in exceptional circumstances, appointment higher up the scale may be considered.
