Together our staff and students are discovering innovative ways to change the world for the better and there has never been a more exciting time for you to join us. We are ranked in the top 1% of universities worldwide and have an international reputation for excellence in teaching and research. We are led by discovery and innovation, with the synergy between research and learning at the core of our activity.

The University of Leicester hosts the Collaborative Computational Project for NMR (CCPN; Over the past sixteen years, CCPN has provided the tools and knowledge to maximise the impact of biological NMR studies. The CCPN software facilitates data analysis and software integration, and is used in ~300 laboratories across the world. The project actively promotes the exchange of knowledge, provides training and best practices for the NMR community. The 28 UK and international partners of CCPN jointly cover all aspects of biomolecular NMR and together they promote excellence in science in their respective fields.

Supported by a partnership grant of MRC, CCPN developed and released the first program of its version-3 CcpNmr Analysis program suite. Analysis version-3 presented a complete rewrite of the entire code-base, compared to the previous version-2. With the version-3 release, CCPN now very much develops towards a shared resource of the NMR community, which draws upon its combined expertise and activity to progress. In collaboration with our partners we develop new state-of-the-art tools in NMR data analysis and NMR structural biology.

The CCPN project is seeking to recruit a talented and highly motivated research scientist / software developer to design and implement and the next phase of the version-3 software package. We seek an individual with a proven expertise in NMR and scientific software development OR a software developer with experience highly relevant to the project (see This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to an important international project that serves a central role in the international biological NMR community.

The research staff / developers will be based in Prof. Vuister’s structural biology research group at the University of Leicester, but there will be extensive interactions with research scientists at the University of Cambridge and the various CCPN partners.

Prof. Vuister is part of the Leicester Institute of Structural and Chemical Biology. The institute is superbly equipped for all aspects of X-ray and NMR-based structural biology, including 600 (x2) and 800 MHz Bruker NMR spectrometers with cryoprobes, a Rigaku X-ray diffraction system, multiple robotic systems for preparing crystal screens, excellent computer facilities and a range of AKTA FPLC protein chromatography systems. Dedicated computing facilities and senior NMR and computational experimental officers support the project.
