The Institute of Classical Studies (ICS) is the national centre for the promotion and facilitation of research into Classics and related disciplines. Founded in 1953 by the University of London and the Hellenic and Roman Societies, it now provides an internationally renowned research library used by scholars from universities throughout the world. It also runs seminar series, conferences and other events aimed at making the results of new research into Greek and Roman Antiquity available to the widest possible audience.
The Institute of Classical Studies invites applications for the post of Public Engagement Fellow to be held for 3 years.
The post holder will organise public engagement events for the Institute; will participate in public engagement events run by the School; will collate information about classical public engagement initiatives and impact activity across the UK, producing reports and publications when appropriate; and will carry out a programme of research on an approved subject within the broad field of classical studies.
The post holder will build links with partner organisations in the field of public engagement such as national and local museums, galleries and libraries, learned societies, and also media organisations. The duties of the post holder will include organising workshops and other events; representing the School and the Institute at national events; and engaging when appropriate in advocacy.
Candidates should have a track record of excellent research, including a PhD in any field of classical studies, relevant publications in print or forthcoming.
