The Western Vascular Institute at Galway University Hospital and GMedTech at Galway Mayo Institute of Technology are recruiting a PhD student in Biomedical Engineering to work on an advanced aortic imaging project, called NextCardio.
The Next Cardio is funded by the European Research Commission in collaboration with partners in Lucian Blaga University (ULBS) in Sibiu, Romania.
The aim of the Next Cardio project is to develop virtual aortic device deployment tools for case planning and device testing.
The Romanian team at ULBS provide the software and programming tools, whereas the Galway group, where the PhD student will be based, provide the clinical and engineering data to inform and validate the software. The data will be generated, retrospectively, via analysis of suitable images from our CT angiography data bank of >1000 aortic scans, and prospectively, by real-time dynamic 4D MRA image acquisition from patients with aortic pathology.
Skills required are:
The project duration is 3 years with PhD registration fees paid and a standard stipend.
Start date is with immediate effect.
