Director and Head of Blizard Institute
Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry (SMD) is seeking a dynamic individual with energy and vision to be the Director and Head of the Blizard Institute to lead and direct the progress of the Institute from its current position of strength. While serving a population of unrivalled diversity we offer international levels of excellence in research and teaching, having achieved a top 10 position in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework overall and 7th in the UK in the area of Clinical Medicine.
As Director and Head you will report to the Vice-Principal (Health) working closely with the Directors of the SMD’s other constituent Institutes. You will provide leadership in support of the development and delivery of SMD and Queen Mary’s strategic plans, with close interaction with the University-wide Life Sciences Initiative (LSI).
The School of Medicine and Dentistry is organised into 6 separate Institutes, of which the Blizard Institute is the largest, with a personnel of c450, financial turnover of c£40 million per annum; and research expenditure of c£20 million per annum. The Institute is organised into 6 Centres and its mission is the advancement of translational medicine for the benefit of population health. The Institute delivers undergraduate and postgraduate courses across the following areas Global Public Health, Trauma, Regenerative Medicine, Aesthetic Medicine, Dermatology and Gastroenterology.
Appointment will be made on an indefinite basis on Professorial or Consultant salary scales as appropriate. You will also receive an annual Institute Director allowance of £6,500, the term of the Directorship role is 3 years with the possibility of renewal.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
