You will be instrumental in shaping and developing one of three major centres in the Global Research Institute of Electronics, Communications and Information Technology (ECIT), heading a team of 60 research staff and PhD students, including 17 faculty members, each leading their own research teams collaborating extensively with industrial and international academic partners on projects focused on addressing foundational and practical challenges associated with information explosion.
Reporting to the ECIT Director, you will lead and deliver ambitious research and innovation plans for the Centre for Data Science and Scalable Computing (DSSC), consistent with the overall objectives of the ECIT GRI plan and QUB’s Vision2020. You will facilitate and lead the creation of major new research initiatives, the creation and promotion of a world-class research culture, with particular emphasis on promoting strong international collaborative research links and securing major research funding from national and international research bodies and industry to sustain and support the growth of the Centre. An important aspect of the role will be the promotion of research translation and the active development of impact to support economic growth. Where appropriate, you may also lead and support the creation of relevant new Post-Graduate Teaching programmes.
This role will involve working collaboratively with the ECIT Director and other ECIT Centre and Research Directors. You will facilitate partnership between the GRI and the Schools to which staff in the Centre also make important contributions, helping to establish and maintain an appropriate balance between the research commitments and education and administrative roles of your staff to maintain the smooth operation of these functions.
