You will work as part of a research team headed by Dr Annette Meeson, Institute of Genetic Medicine, and co-supervised by Dr Simon Lowes, Northern Institute for Cancer Research. The project focuses on solute transporter expression in breast cancer cells.
We aim to establish how transporter expression within different breast cancer types influences their sensitivity to chemotherapy and hormone treatment, as well as their imaging characteristics on Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Initially this project will investigate the complement of transporter expression in breast cancer cell lines. It will then focus on human breast cancer tissue. This will enable us to analyse the heterogeneity of transporter expression depending on cancer subtype.
You will be expected to be working towards a PhD for appointment at Research Assistant level or have been awarded a PhD in a relevant subject area for appointment at Associate level.
Expertise in cell culture, handling human tissue, and molecular biology is essential. You will possess good technical and communication skills at all levels. You will also have strong organisation skills, will work well in a team and have the ability to learn new techniques.
