FdA Drug and Alcohol Counselling and Treatment Course Director

University of Leicester - Vaughan Centre for Lifelong Learning

Open ended subject to fixed term funding to 30 September 2019, with a possible extension to September 2020.

Together our staff and students are discovering innovative ways to change the world for the better and there has never been a more exciting time for you to join us. We are ranked in the top 1% of universities worldwide and have an international reputation for excellence in teaching and research. We are led by discovery and innovation, with the synergy between research and learning at the core of our activity.

The University of Leicester Foundation Degree in Drug and Alcohol Counselling and Treatment, trains adults to work as drug and alcohol support workers in the drug and alcohol treatment sector. Applicants to the course are all mature, and many of them already work in the sector.

The Campus course runs over four years part-time, with classes once a week during term time. The Distance Learning course runs online, using the Blackboard Virtual Learning Environment, backed up by 20 days of intensive workshop throughout the whole course. It can be taken in three years by applicants already working in the sector, but otherwise takes four years. The course has excellent relations with local drug and alcohol treatment agencies, who take students on placement for two years.

The University has now closed the course to new recruitment, though there remains an exciting fixed-term role for someone with both experience and/or knowledge of the Drug and Alcohol Treatment world and of Higher Education. The successful applicant will oversee the teaching and assessment of existing students until the final cohort has graduated.
