The South East Physics Network (SEPnet) is a network of nine physics departments in South East England. Its collaborative programmes of specialist outreach, employer engagement and research help sustain the provision and take-up of undergraduate physics courses in the region and further the impact of research. With funding from HEFCE, SEPnet has aligned its activities with institutional and employability needs of physics undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) research students (PGRs).
We are seeking to appoint an Employer Engagement Officer to work with regional employers and university careers and placement services to help meet the employability needs of physics students. The Employer Engagement Officer will establish and build on relationships with local employer bodies and employers, co-ordinate UG and PGR placements, source host employers and facilitate knowledge exchange opportunities. You will also be responsible for facilitating employer contributions to the UG curriculum and the SEPnet Graduate Network Programme as well as evaluating student engagement with employers and addressing wider participation issues.
Applications are invited for this 0.4 FTE role reporting to the Associate Dean of Physics Sciences and Engineering and the SEPnet Employer Liaison Director. Applicants will be educated to degree level and have previous experience of employer engagement, preferably in the higher education sector. You will be proactive and outgoing and must have strong communication and project management skills.
The position holder will be employed by and located at University of Southampton. The position holder will be required to undertake regular travel within the South East region to the member institutions, employers, professional societies and other stakeholders.
