Governance Services provides effective and comprehensive corporate and information governance support, ensuring clear, user friendly accessible processes whilst providing robust compliance and reputational protection for the University. Working in partnership with other services (especially the Vice Chancellor’s Office, Strategy Directorate, Legal Services and Student and Administration Services) the service works to ensure effective scheduling and management of corporate business and effective governance focus on delivery of the Strategic Plan and associated sub-strategies and priorities. The Services principle customers are Vice Chancellor’s Executive Team (VCET), University Management Team (UMT), Council and their respective committees or sub-groups.

The Corporate Governance Officer, Executive is responsible for supporting the University Secretary in the efficient operation of Governance Services, and for working closely and collaborating with senior management and members of Council. They will have specific responsibility for the operational interface between management and the university’s corporate governance interfaces, ensuring business, decisions and actions are communicated, co-ordinated and completed as appropriate.

The Corporate Governance Officer, Executive, reporting to Corporate Governance Manager, will co-ordinate and provide business and secretariat support for the Executive Boards of the University, along with supporting the activities of the University Secretary and taking ownership of day to day liaison with key internal and external stakeholders.

They will work energetically, proactively and innovatively to enable the successful attainment of operational objectives, including the provision of a full range of administrative support functions for the University Secretary. He/she will act as the first point of contact for all Secretariat queries.

The role will contribute to the wider operations of the Governance Unit, including the development and delivery of a flexible and effective administrative structure to underpin and support its activities. This will require an operational culture based on the highest professional values, including cross functional team work, customer service, innovation and University wide collaboration.

The appointee will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the required support for committee, executive management, corporate governance, policy and business administration. The role holder will display exemplary administrative and written skills, a deep commitment to service excellence and the capacity to work flexibly and effectively with internal stakeholders.

They will therefore be expected to demonstrate well developed organisational and interpersonal skills and to be a proven self-starter, creative, energetic, open and collaborative.
