Applications are invited for the position of Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the Surrey Technology for Autonomous systems and Robotics (STAR) Lab within the Surrey Space Centre and University of Surrey for a 15-month project on autonomous vehicles for cross-sector applications including space, nuclear and agriculture.
This project involves development of visual navigation software for small field vehicles to drive autonomously on rugged terrains with uncertainties such as planetary surfaces or agricultural fields. The postdoc is expected to develop algorithms/software making use of camera images and LIDAR data to build maps of the terrain and plan safe/efficient path for the vehicle. S/he will also be responsible for implementation and validation of the developed software on sensor and vehicle hardware, taking part in field trials. The project is collaborative between multiple academic and industrial organizations and requires formal reporting through publications and presentations on a regular basis within the project consortium.
The applicant should have a Bachelor's degree (2nd upper or above) and a PhD in relevant disciplines such as electrical engineering, computer science, and mechatronics, etc. R&D experience in autonomous systems and robotics is desirable. The position requires strong programming and computing background in C/C++, hands-on abilities, and communication and team working skills.
For informal academic inquiries regarding the post, please contact the project PI Professor Yang Gao at email@example.com, +44 (0) 01483 683446.
