Associate Director - Research in education and skills

The Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) is looking to recruit an outstanding and experienced researcher to direct and manage our team working on the economics of education and skills. The successful applicant will provide intellectual leadership and manage a team of excellent economists conducting first class research in the economics of education.

IFS is Europe’s leading centre of microeconomic policy research. It is a politically independent registered charity that bridges the gap between policymakers and academics. The education and skills team is one of eight research teams within IFS. It conducts high quality empirical research on early years, schools, higher education and skills. Our work is of the very highest quality and impacts on the policy debate, with the media and with policymakers.

The successful candidate will have a proven academic record in education economics (or a related area) and experience of research, either in academia or a policy or consultancy role. He or she will be able to lead and participate in top quality economic research, developing ideas, managing projects, raising funding and disseminating research findings to a diverse audience. A knowledge of UK education policy and of the UK’s education data infrastructure is desirable.

The Associate Director will both manage and develop a team of economists and work with a number of external research fellows. They will contribute to the overall smooth running of IFS and take a role in the intellectual leadership of the Institute as a whole.
