Applications are invited for a Research Associate (RA) position in the Theoretical Physics Group of the Department of Physics at Imperial College London. Appointments will be for two years, but there is a possibility of an extension depending on future funding. The position is funded primarily by the EPSRC programme grant New Geometric Structures from String Theory. The RA will work with Professor Chris Hull, Professor Jerome Gauntlett, Professor Dan Waldram and Professor Amihay Hanany and will also interact with other members of the Theory Group.
The successful candidate must have a PhD degree in Theoretical Physics (either awarded or anticipated) or an equivalent level of professional qualifications and experience.
Essential criteria include outstanding research experience in some or all of the following areas: string theory, supersymmetric quantum field theory, the AdS/CFT correspondence and quiver gauge theories. It is also desirable that the successful candidate has experience in using mathematical approaches such as the application of generalized geometry or localisation. You will have experience in carrying out research of high quality, independently and in a team, with evidence provided by publications of high quality.
The successful candidate will be expected to help produce independent and original research within the Theoretical Physics group and submit publications to refereed journals and help with teaching and administration of small research groups. *Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £31,740 - £33,370 per annum).
