The role

We are seeking a candidate qualified by virtue of their leadership experience to appoint as a Principal Lecturer A / Head of Department. Coventry University London’s Head of Departments are substantive Principal Lecturer A posts with parallel three-year fixed term appointment as a Head of Department. Heads of Department receive an additional responsibility allowance (currently £3000 p.a. honorarium). At the end of the period of appointment as a Head of Department, the incumbent will revert to the substantive Principal Lecturer A post.

This strategic position will provide leadership to advance the Marketing, Fashion, Hospitality and Tourism Department. The role holder will lead, manage and develop the department to ensure it achieves the highest possible standards of excellence in all its activities. The role holder will exercise leadership, demonstrate vision, and empower others in order to deliver the agreed departmental objectives.

The Team

The role holder will be leading with the members of the Marketing, Fashion, Hospitality and Tourism Department - a friendly, lively and diverse team. These highly-motivated and enthusiastic staff are dedicated to helping students succeed.

Your Profile

We need a self-motivated individual who can both deliver a quality learning experience for students and inspire the team of marketing lecturers. You should have enthusiasm for practice-based learning, being able to synergise theory into practice and can use and develop a range of learning strategies to support the best student experience. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in teaching and learning in marketing or in one of the other areas of the department: tourism, hospitality, events or fashion management.

The role requires someone with confidence and competence in academic management, including areas such as staff recruitment and induction, training, coaching and development, management of academic quality and of individual and team performance.
