Neuroscience and Mental Health Research Institute
The Neuroscience and Mental Health Research Institute is one of the University’s flagship Institutes that was established in 2010. It is internationally-recognized as a Centre of excellence for the field of neuroscience as applied to mental health. Its mission is to drive the development of new research areas aimed at translating the fundamental discoveries made by Cardiff neuroscientists and geneticists in the major psychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders into a greater understanding of disease mechanisms, diagnosis, treatment and prevention.
A fundamental goal in understanding neurological disorders is to bridge the gap between abnormal outward behaviour and the abnormal neural activity which must at some level underlie it. In order to make steps in this direction paradigms are developed in which neural circuits can be probed using in vivo functional imaging and optogenetic techniques in rodents performing cognitive tasks. We are seeking a senior technician to assist with the establishment of these techniques. During the course of the post the candidate will have the opportunity to develop experience of a number of cutting edge biological and neuroscience methodologies including behavioural testing, functional imaging and viral/transgenic methods.
The post holder will be providing services across two buildings, Sir Martin Evans Building and the Neuroscience and Mental Health Research Institute within the Hadyn Ellis Building.
This is a full time position (35 hours per week), available immediately and is fixed until July 31st 2020.
